29 Jun Humidity causes more than just a bad hair day!
Did you know that your air conditioner can actually produce somewhere between 5-10 gallons of water PER day? As the fan blows air across the coils the moisture in the air condenses on to the coil. When enough moisture condenses it forms water drops which drip out of the air conditioning unit. When it becomes humid outside, the “moisture” content increases and your unit will produce much more condensation than usual. The condensation should collect in a condensate drain line, be pumped out, or pool inside a condensate tray. If the condensation is not able to be drained from the unit without restriction, it could potentially cause damage if left unattended. Each and every air conditioner unit, whether it is 1 year old or 15 years old, at some point will have a condensate drain restriction which will require a service call. To help prevent this need for repair, we recommend either an audible water alarm or a condensate overflow detection switch.
